CODEX: Void Dragons
by Ripper McGuirl
Origins and Home Planet:
The Dragons of the Void, or the Void Dragons, as they are more commonly
called, hail from a large system that is rich in just about every
resource. As such, virtually every Imperial organization has a presence
there. The people of the Salmaris system have a long-standing and proud
reputation throughout the Imperium as being loyal, strong, and fair. The
Adeptus Arbites will go to great lengths to get an officer from this
system, and they are often called into duty in problem areas where
corruption and crime are problematic. The guardsmen of Salmaris have an
equally grand reputation and are always well equipped, well trained, and
willing to fight. Many technical marvels are produced in this system, as
the tech adepts enjoy full co-operation with all other organizations and
are allowed to research and field test with impunity. All children are
raised for military careers, and all walks of the imperial creed are
held in equal esteem. Once a citizen has completed his or her service in
the military (offices such as manufacture and shipping distribution are
considered military and just as important as the actual fighting), they
are allowed to either retire from active service, or join the local
wing of the ecclesiarchy or the government. This is to prevent the young
and inexperienced from having positions where their naiveté could cause
harm to others, while at the same time, allowing veterans to enjoy the
fruits of their labors. Children of promise are constantly monitored
and tested, and only the very best are allowed to begin training to
become one of the revered Adeptus Astartes.
Potential recruits are tried in tests of the mind, body and spirit from
the time their potential manifests itself. It is said that the current
chapter master, Saelus, was identified as extraordinary at the age of 3
years.
Once every quarter century, standard terra time, the fleet of the Void
Dragons sends a recruiting party back to Salmaris to gather initiates.
There is a permanent recruiting station on Faelsor (the least
hospitable of the planets in the system, and as such, the "training ground" of
the system), and all initiates are sent there to begin their training
and await the return of the fleet envoys.
Every person capable of rational thought is expected to take
responsibility for their actions and are encouraged not to act brashly or out of
turn. As such, much of the time, the Salmarians may seem aloof or slow
witted, however, they are simply weighing options or thinking of the
best course of action. Every citizen is encouraged to be independent by
nature, and are often able to provide for themselves completely
independently of society. Interpersonal relationships are also encouraged, as
it is said that knowing others helps one to know oneself, and as such,
increases awareness of ones surroundings.
